Explore the tradition of tea through clay. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll shape and refine your own matcha bowl using simple handbuilding techniques — no wheel required. Learn about the form and function of a chawan, from its curve to how it fits in your hands.
We’ll guide you through smoothing, shaping, and finishing your bowl. We will be using a mix of pinch bowl and coil techniques. At the end, your piece will be glazed in a ALMa studio finish and fired, ready for your daily tea ritual.
Perfect for beginners — no prior clay experience needed.
About the Instructor:
Ale received her degree in fine art, and then moved on to get her teaching credentials for high school. She taught 8 years of high school, and loves teaching and meeting new people. She enjoys seeing others tap into their creativity, and finding relaxation within a craft. I like to thing of these workshops as a time for folks to unwind and relax in a comfotable environment while learning about a new medium.
