FORMA: Shaping space, objects, and connection.

About Us

We are Alejandra and Luis Magaña, a husband and partner collaboration who co-run ALMa design studio where we bring to life ceramic objects that are both functional and artistic.  We design and manufacture ceramic handmade objects—like dinnerware and décor. The influence comes from a curiosity of working together as a married couple and as partners who create functional art referencing an ancient language.

Our work bridges the past and our present, drawing from material and histories to create objects that embody the layers that shapes us. As a married couple and creative partners, our work is a direct exploration of our shared journey—the curiosities of collaborating in life and art. Our hands shape dinnerware for high-end restaurants, imbuing each piece with a unique narrative, and craft home décor items that gracefully blur the lines between function and compelling form. Through our ceramics, we delve into our rich cultural heritage and navigate the evolving conversations that define our marriage. Our sculptural pieces are a result of coming together and accepting each other. We communicate through clay, and the result is an ancient language that expresses commitment, compromise, partnership and more.

At ALMa Design Studio, our creations serve as a bridge between the past and the present. We meticulously draw from the profound depths of material histories and cultural narratives from our Mexican roots as well as a dialog between creative partnerships,, allowing these influences to imbue each object with layers of meaning and identity. Our intention is not for our pieces to merely occupy a space, but to actively transform it, bringing a deeper sense of connection and beauty into the lives of those who experience them.
